My name is Andrew and I am your host at Sweet Spot and this was always my dream to one day open my own ski lodge.

My background is in IT and have worked for many years in some of the UK’s largest architectural practices. Then a few years ago I decided to take the leap and after a season in Japan working as a Snowboard Instructor in the area, I was hooked.

The name Sweet Spot as unusual as it may seem was inspired by Madarao’s amazing location within the Japanese Alps. It is ideally situated within the region, which offers guests the perfect opportunity to explore a number of local resorts all within a 30min drive. The lodge is under a 2 hour direct train ride on the world famous ‘Bullet Train’ from Tokyo.  

After purchasing the lodge in 2023 I spent a couple of years renovating it to what you see here today with the aim of providing a warm home for guests from around the world to enjoy.
